Having current home-owner's or renter's insurance is essential.
However, insurance will only pay out for what you can document,
or what is reasonable. In other words, if you don't have proper
documentation of your items, a claim will likely be insufficient
to replace all of your missing belongings.
Having a professional inventory performed provides you with
third-party documentation of your belongings.
Having Inventory People do this for you, and keeping up to date
with your inventory will mean that the claim process will not only
be more accurate, but it will be quicker as well.
We will make the process easier and faster as well!

Simply - You can.
Our first recommendation would be for you to give yourself a deadline.
Put it on the calendar. Many of our clients have found that they
have the best intentions, but either don't know where to start, or they
just really don't have the time. Who really wants to take a day or more off of
their already packed schedule to document their belongings?
It really isn't complicated, but it is very time-consuming:
- List all of your belongings on paper. Including:
Description
Manufacturer
Model Number
Serial Number
Purchase date (if available)
Purchase price (if available)
Beneficiary Designations (if necessary)
etc.
- Take photos of everything.
- Mark each photo with a corresponding number on your listing.
- If you are using commercial software, you will need to enter all of the information you gathered into the application.
Then, when you are done make sure you have more than one copy.
Store a copy in a safe deposit box, or with a trusted friend or family member.
You also will need to periodically update this listing, and add photos, make copies, etc.
That is most of the work. Keep in mind that you will need to use this listing
to report to your insurance company and police department if you have a claim.
Even with all of that tedious work behind you, it is still a chore to go through your
list to make sure you don't miss any items on a claim.
Our proprietary software, and efficient inventory specialists will speed
up every part of this. And what's even better, is that you can be doing other things
that you want to be doing while we are hard at work for you.
At this point, we do not have a consumer version of our software.
While we have considered this, we are currently running our software on a high-end,
client-server platform. It is more likely that we will offer our software on-line
in the future. This will provide a lot of flexibility for our do-it-yourself customers,
with inherent off-site storage, ability to access your data from your hotel room during
a crisis and you will even have the ability to order reports that we can print and ship
to you. Please let us know if you would be interested in this service.
Obviously, every home and business is different. Our estimates will
be specific to your inventory needs. Ok, so you would like to at least
have an idea... A home that has 100 items to be recorded would typically
be completed in 6 to 8 hours (this also depends on the level of detail recorded).
The cost for a job of this size would be in the neighborhood of $500.
There is no preparation required for your free Pre-Inventory Consult.
During the Pre-Inventory Consult, we will review with you what your special requirements are.
We will also develop a plan for how much effort you will need to contribute. There are obviously
certain things that are going to require some preparation. Just to name a few:
- Beneficiary Designations. Sticky notes may be left on items that are to be flagged for a beneficiary.
- Prepare receipts if applicable (businesses and special items)
- Items in storage may need to be brought out.
- Rooms need to be labeled - we will record them with a name you provide.
- Entertainment systems. Occasionally, components are difficult to gain access to. This will be determined during our Consult.
This is YOUR inventory. Your participation level will really be determined by your goals, and unique needs.

While this stage is a bit late to be efficient, there are some things
that we will be able to help you with.
The number one thing though, is that we can help you to develop a plan to
ensure that as you re-build your property, you can also build an inventory.
Insurance companies are businesses. While good insurance companies will help
keep your losses to a minimum, all insurance companies still have to protect
themselves from fraud. If you need to file another claim in the future, it
will be even MORE valuable for you to have a good inventory of your property.
We can certainly understand this line of thought. We can do our job much
more efficiently in an orderly house. If you are looking for a clean slate,
we can make a recommendation for a home organizing service. In any case,
we will still provide you with a free consult to determine your needs, and
provide you with an estimate.
This is actually not a problem at all. We keep a copy of your inventory on our secured server(s).
Your data resides in a database that is updated daily, and backed up nightly. This allows
us to efficiently perform your inventory updates, incident management, and also ensures (as
you have now found important) that you have a secure and complete backup.
If you are up to date on your inventory (we have visited you within the last 12 months for an update),
then you will receive a free Incident Management Service. This service does include updated reports, and
data media, but it does not include a replacement portfolio. A new portfolio may be purchased
for a nominal fee.
Our pricing is reasonable, and we believe FIRMLY that we are a
VALUE company. We provide a valuable service for a reasonable
price.
We charge per hour, but we provide free estimates and we will be
as accurate as possible.
We want this service to be affordable for EVERYONE. We believe it is that
important to have your home inventoried.
We also feel strongly that our customers need us to be here tomorrow. The
honest truth is that it costs money to be in business. So you will find
our pricing to be competitive, yet worthy of the quality of service you will
receive.
Our pricing philosophy is to maintain the balance between being able
to provide the best quality service, yet keeping it affordable enough
that potential customers will be able to leverage our services.
